Joel G. Crowell

President and Chief Executive Officer

Joel has been with The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod since 1969, starting as a teller in the East Dennis Branch. He has served as the Bank’s President and CEO since 1983. In the 30+ years of his presidency, he has helped to guide and encourage the Bank’s philanthropic presence on the Cape through his own involvement and commitment to giving. An active member of the Cape’s business and philanthropic communities, Joel serves on the board of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the board of the Cape Cod Needy Fund, and the board of Cape Cod Healthcare where he previously sat as board chairman. He is a trustee and the president of the Kelley Foundation, and was awarded the Outstanding Business/Organization of the Year on behalf of the Bank at the 2012 Philanthropy Day award ceremony. The same year, Joel received the Community Bank Heroes Award sponsored by the Banker & Tradesman.

In the past, he has also been active on the boards of such organizations as Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Cape Cod Foundation, Coastal Community Capital, Duffy Health Center, and Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands (RHCI), among others. For 44 years, Joel has served as a Call Firefighter for the Dennis Fire Department and was honored by the Department in 2014 for the Crowell family’s 100 years of service to DFD. Other awards he has received include the Housing Assistance Corporation’s Leadership with Compassion Award in 1999, and the Paul Harris award given by the Rotary Club of Hyannis in 2014. Joel served as a Dennis Selectman from 1978-1985, acting as chairman for three years.

Joel embodies the bank’s long-standing philosophy of providing highly personal customer service. A graduate of Northeastern University, he and his wife Beth have three adult children and live in East Dennis.
