Year-End Letter from Joel Crowell, President and CEO
To our Customers, Neighbors, and Friends,
I’m pleased to report that 2016 was another year of growth for The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. We hired ad- ditional lenders, both residential and commercial, allowing us to serve an even wider range of Cape Codders. We opened our new branch on Worcester Court in Falmouth – our ninth full-service branch. We continued to innovate – enhancing our Online and Mobile Banking capabilities for both consumers and businesses. We launched our new website, now with easier navigation, more information at your fingertips, and the ability to open accounts online from start to finish. And we launched a new banking product that rewards customers just for banking the way they normally do. MyMobile Checking – designed so customers can bank where, when, and how they choose and earn cash for using their debit card – is the first debit rewards product we’re aware of offered by a local community bank. A few years ago, we reissued chip-enabled debit cards to all our customers. Chip-enabled cards provide a higher level of security and we thought it was important to get them into our customers’ hands as quickly as possible. That’s why we chose to reissue new cards to all our customers at the same time rather than to groups of customers over a period of months. MyMobile Checking combined with our chip-enabled debit card is a great combination for our customers.
In 2016, we continued our “Bank Local” message, stressing the importance of supporting local businesses. As one of only a few remaining community banks solely focused on Cape Cod, we’re proud to provide individuals, families, and busi- nesses the same products as bigger banks with the personal, professional, comfortable service that defines local community banking. That combination is what makes us positively different. For 96 years, we’ve been focused on relationships. Even today, as technology continues to change the way people bank, our customers still value our commitment to exceptional service. As we like to say – it’s about technology and people, not technology or people.
Last, but certainly not least, we continued to support the communities where we live and work. By partnering with the causes and organizations that Cape Codders care about, we help strengthen the ties that bind our communities together. A great example of this was Operation Santa, the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation’s annual holiday toy drive for our military families here on the Cape. You may remember the Foundation suffered a devastating fire in October, destroying all the toys and supplies the Foundation volunteers had gathered throughout the year. Cape Codders came together and the response was immediate and amazing. We provided our branches as drop-off locations and donated both volunteers and funds to help the Foundation get back on their feet. We were not alone. Individuals, families, and businesses from across the Cape responded in kind. On December 11, the Foundation held their party with more toys than ever before. It was a heartwarming reminder of how special the Cape community truly is. Our partnerships with organizations like the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation are the heart and soul of community banking and we take this responsibility seriously. That’s community banking…it’s what we do and why we’re here. And the more people who bank with us, the more support we can provide to the important organizations that make the Cape such a special place.
And this good work doesn’t happen by accident. The team at The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod is second-to-none. They warmly welcome you at our branches or on the phone. They find solutions for your financial needs – whether it’s a checking account that allows you to bank where, when and how you choose, a loan to finance your home or business, or a savings account to help you put away money for a rainy day. They donate countless hours volunteering in their communities, and their “Charity Jeans Day” donations help dozens of organizations throughout the year. We have a special team and I’m honored to work with them and grateful for their dedication to our customers.
In closing, I’d like to thank you for banking with us. I know I speak for everyone here at The Coop when I say we sincerely appreciate your business. And if you happen to know of friends and family who don’t bank with us yet, please ask them to give us a try. They’ll be surprised by our positively different approach to banking.
