October 23, 2017 (HYANNIS, MA) –For the fourth year in a row, The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod is hosting their #GivingTuesday Restock the Shelves Food Drive in all 9 of its branches. From November 1 – 27, the Bank will be collecting unexpired, nonperishable food items and monetary donations to benefit local food pantries. On #GivingTuesday, November 28, employee volunteers will bring the donations to the various pantries and help to sort, restock the shelves, and serve Cape Codders visiting the pantry.
“During this time of year, we’re always moved by the generosity of Cape Codders and our employees who consistently go above and beyond to help their friends and neighbors in need,” said Lisa Oliver, President and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. “Every year, our local food pantries serve hundreds of Cape Cod families on Thanksgiving. By collecting money and food to donate on #GivingTuesday, we want to help restock the shelves in anticipation for the holidays and long winter months.”
As in years past, The Coop will also be collecting monetary donations for the pantries.
“Monetary donations are important because we have much greater purchasing power,” said Sue Martin, Executive Director of the Yarmouth Food Pantry. “When we purchase food through the Greater Boston Food Bank, every dollar is equivalent to $5.00 of product. We truly appreciate the support from The Coop as we restock our shelves to help those in need.”
Toiletry and paper goods are also needed at the pantry since “people on food stamps are not allowed to use them for toiletries,” said Laurie Ray of the Sandwich Food Pantry. “Items like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, disposable razors and shaving cream can be used to bag up and give out at Christmas time.”
Each branch will “adopt” a local food pantry and have bins in their lobbies to collect food items. All branches will also accept monetary donations for any of the pantries listed below:
• The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, Harwich
• Hands of Hope Food Pantry, Dennis
• The Yarmouth Food Pantry, Yarmouth
• Salvation Army, Hyannis
• Grace Veterans Center Food Pantry, Hyannis
• St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Francis Xavier, Hyannis
• St. Vincent DePaul Society at Christ The King, Mashpee
• The Sandwich Food Pantry, Sandwich
• Falmouth Service Center, Falmouth
